Jo Bowman Bio
As an artist my work varies in style & medium.
My skill set crosses multiple disciplines and believe working with primary & secondary students at Fremantle Art Centre in holiday programs would suit my experience.
The works I produce range from sculptural, stitched forms in grass & coloured rope, then large knitted works made from surveyor’s tape and jute.
I assemble found pieces of timber into house forms and icons with objects embedded into recesses. I also address Wearable Art sculpturally, using found objects.
This work ethic arises from growing up in the Eastern Wheatbelt, on a farm and observing my family work in shearing sheds, driving tractors and cutting wood for the fire. The jigsaw of life reflects my experiences through this art practice.
Twenty-one years of teaching has provided a platform to create art, inspire students and address the importance of art & culture in our community.
I am currently a tutor in the Gifted & Talented Visual Art program at Applecross Senior High School, where I teach Classical & Contemporary drawing as well as Printmaking.
During the week I am a relief teacher and run a business called ArtBox WA, where I teach primary & secondary students art skills with a creative approach.
